March 13, 2010 - Justin Johnson Wins Season Opener at South Boston

South Boston, VA --

South Boston champion Justin Johnson continued where he left off Saturday at the historic South Boston Speedway, winning the rained shortened 75 lap event.

Johnson sat on the inside of row 5 of the 26 car field to start the rain-shortened event. As he had all season in 2009, he worked his way through the field, eventually getting to the bumper of 2009 Langley Speedway champion CE Falk. After a bit of nudging, Johnson made it past Falk, but the caution quickly came out, forcing Johnson back to second. After a restart, Johnson again got past Falk, and this time the cautions were in his favor, as the yellow flag flew again for rain. The rain didn't subside, and Johnson was declared the winner.

Falk finished the race in second, with three-time national champion Philip Morris finishing third.

With his win, Justin takes the early-season point lead, ahead of Falk and Morris, though both drivers will be running a limited schedule at South Boston Speedway. South Boston regular Nick Smith finished fourth in Saturday's event, and is second out of the South Boston regulars in points.

Next week Justin will return to the historic 4/10 mile South Boston Speedway for the first 150 lap race of the 2010 schedule. April 3, Johnson will make his first start in over 2 years at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA in an attempt to steal points in the NASCAR Whelen All-American national points chase.
