May 8, 2010 - Johnson Takes 1 of 2 at South Boston Twin 75s
South Boston, VA --
South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock point leader Justin Johnson continued his winning ways, taking half of the two twin 75 lap events at the historic 4/10 mile speedway.
In the first event, Johnson qualified fifth, behind Nick Smith, Kenny Forbes, Stacy Puryear and Philip Morris. The fifth position would be short-lived, however, as Puryear and Johnson quickly dispensed of Morris.
A long battle with the 2008 Orange County Speedway track champion would ensue. During the race w/ Puryear, the two drivers made their way past Kenny Forbes, moving to second and third respectively. A lap 53 pass on Puryear would move Johnson to second place, but with the shorter race, Johnson ran out of time, finishing second behind Nick Smith.
In the second 75 lap event, the top three would invert, with Johnson starting on the outside of row 1, with Puryear underneath him and race 1 winner Smith starting third. Johnson would make quick work of Puryear at the start of the race, quickly moving to the point from the outside. Despite a flurry of charges from Smith, Johnson was able to hold on for the win. Smith and Deac McCaskill would round out the top three.
Justin Johnson returns to South Boston Speedway to continue the defense of his 2009 track championship. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series drivers will take to the historic 4/10 mile oval for 150 laps.
