May 15, 2010 - Johnson Passes Late, Wins 6th Race of Year

South Boston, VA --

Justin Johnson came into the May 15 150 lap event at South Boston with five wins and in second place in National Points. With a full field of Late Model Stocks in action, Johnson needed a win to cut into Keith Rocco's national point lead.

Johnson qualified fourth, on the outside of another FDJ car, Jeb Burton. After a lap 4 caution, Johnson made quick work of Burton, and moved onto battling with Lee Pulliam. Pulliam had a quick car all evening, and was able to pull away from Johnson's Puryear Tank Lines Toyota Camry on short runs. By lap 80, though, Johnson had madeup the 15 car lengths and passed Pulliam just before a David Latour spin that would bring out the caution.

Fighting a tight car all night, Johnson needed almost 20 green flag laps per run to get to Nick Smith, who had led from the opening flag. With 15 laps to go, Johnson was finally able to catch Smith. After 7 laps of hard racing, Johnson made it by, holding on for the final 8 laps to win his sixth race of 2010.

Justin Johnson will be taking the coming weekend off before returning to the historic 4/10 mile South Boston Speedway for their twin 75 lap event. It's then on to Motor Mile Speedway for the first two weekends in June.
