May 29, 2010 - Johnson Takes One of Two at South Boston
South Boston, VA --
Memorial Day weekend saw another successful night of racing for Justin Johnson and the Puryear Tank Lines Toyota team.
In the first of two 75 lap events, Justin qualified mid-pack and quickly moved his way to the front. Track conditions would play a factor, though, with Johnson unable to put his FDJ Motorsports machine to the apron of the track. This made passing difficult, and catching the leader Stacy Puryear was of the utmost difficulty. At the end of the race, though, Johnson has secured a 3rd place finish.
"Passing is tough with the track being how it is" said Johnson, predicting that if he were to sit on the pole, he would dominate the second event.
Puryear drew a "3" for the invert for the second race, putting Johnson on the pole. True to his word, Johnson would lead every lap despite a late charge from Lee Pulliam. The win made Johnson a 7-time winner on the season, helping him maintain a third-place spot in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points.
