June 19, 2010 - Johnson Splits with Pulliam at South Boston

South Boston, VA --

On a nght where South Boston Speedway had its largest field of the season, Justin Johnson once again added to his point total, winning the second half of a twin 75 lap double-header.

In the night's first race, Johnson qualified 8th, and would have a tough time moving through the field at the tight 4/10 mile track. By lap 17, Johnson had moved to sixth, but had trouble moving up from there as the leaders raced hard in front of him. By 25 to go, Johnson had moved to fifth. A late caution would give Tommy Lemons Jr. and David Latour both a shot at the point-leader, but Johnson would hold them off for a solid top-five finish. Up front, Lee Pulliam won his first race of the year, over 2009 national champion Philip Morris, Stacy Puryear and Woody Howard.

With a five-car invert, Justin Johnson sat on the pole for the night's second event, but it would be Woody Howard and Philip Morris pulling out to first and second early on. Johnson would battle back, taking the lead for good on lap 56. Morris, Puryear, Michael Hardin and Latour would round out the top five.

The win is the 8th for Johnson on the season. He currently holds a 108 point lead on second place Stacy Puryear and a 149 point lead on Deac McCaskill, who's third.

Justin returns to the track this Saturday night at Motor Mile Speedway for 150 laps of racing.
