July 24, 2010 - Johnson Splits with Pulliam - Extends SoBo Point Lead

South Boston, VA --

Chalk up another win in a twin for Justin Johnson.

With track conditions a problem earlier in the day, qualifying was cancelled and the field was lined up by points, putting 2009 track champion and current point leader Justin Johnson on the pole for race 1 of a twin 75 Lap doubleheader. Due to second and third practice being cancelled, as well as qualifying, Johnson's car wasn't set up exactly as it needed to be, and Johnson spent the majority of the first race far too tight. Stacy Puryear would take the early lead, with Johnson falling back to third behind Lee Pulliam. Pulliam would rally past Puryear for the lead and win the first race, with Johnson never falling further back than third.

With a three-car invert after the first race, Johnson again was on the pole. After some changes made to the setup of the car, Johnson's car was more free and a bit easier to motor around the historic .4 mile track. Again, Puryear would take the early lead, but this time Johnson would move to the point on lap 3 and never look back. Despite a few late cautions and a potential steering problem on the FDJ Motorsports machine, Johnson held off the advances of Puryear, Pulliam and David Latour, winning the second race. The win keeps Johnson perfect for the year in second-half races.

Justin Johnson Racing returns to South Boston Speedway to continue the defense of his 2009 track championship with 150 laps of Late Model Stock racing.
